'Half of Mild' Beer Festival May 24th Noon to 26th 2012 

May is CAMRA’s Mild month, so lots of brewers make mild for may. Here we present 6 of the finest examples of this beer style. Note that they are not all dark and sweet.
This is balanced by 9 interesting beers from some of our favourite breweries. Get Quaffing!

The Milds
Summer Wine – ‘Resistance’ 3.7%
Dark brown ruby colour with a silky malt body. Notes of caramel, cocoa and soft roast flavours combined with a light fruitiness.

Acorn – ‘Darkness’ 4.2%

Aromatic roast malts give a deep red colour and Fuggles hops give a mild level of bitterness and aroma.

Arbor – ‘Full Of Beans’ 3.6%

A coffee infused dark mild from Bristol.

Arbor – ‘Ryeteous’ 3.7%

A dry-hopped pale rye mild brewed with the respected beer writer Adrian Tierney Jones.

Kissingate – ‘Gardenia’ 4.5%

A mid amber mild with Rosemary and Rose petals added to the cask to give a floral and unique flavour.

Dark Star – ‘Victorian Ruby Mild’ 6%
Mashed with mild ale malt along with a careful blend of other speciality malts. A mix of European & US hops are then added in the copper to give the gentle bitterness.

The Others…

Buxton – ‘Black Rocks’ 5.5%
Black Rocks is a Black IPA. It is very dark in colour, yet has many characteristics of an India Pale Ale. Late mash additions provide the colour without the harsher, roasted flavours of the dark malts. The beer has a blackcurrant aroma and flavours of liquorice and pithy grapefruit.


Red Willow – ‘Smokeless’ 5.7%
A surprisingly approachable smoked porter, velvet smooth with a robust malt backbone. This is infused with Chipotles to give even more smokiness and a subtle hint of heat.

Magic Rock – ‘Carnival’ 4.3%

Golden ale. Aromas of sweet pine and tangerine balanced along side a caramel body. Expect lots of powerful citrus flavours and a nice bitter finnish. For those who love hops!

Magic Rock – ‘Rapture’ 4.6%
Full bodied, heavily hopped red beer. 5 types of malt and 6 types of hops make for a truly elating experience. Uplifting aromas of grapefruit and pine, combine
with a pithy orange and pronounced citrus flavour which is balanced against a deeply rich and malty body. A satisfyingly dry and crisp finish

Summer Wine – ‘Barista Stout’ 4.8%
Dark malt bitterness leads to roast coffee set against a sumptuous creamy mouthfeel. Ground Arabica coffee is added to the hot wort at the end of the boil and allowed to steep, giving you a real coffee hit throughout. The beer finishes with a touch of moreish sweetness.

Bristol Beer Factory – ‘Seven’ 4.2%
Toffee malt flavours balanced with smooth hop bitterness and aroma. Pale, Crystal and Wheat malt, with English Challenger bittering hops and Fuggles aroma addition.

Brodie’s – ‘Awesomestow IPA’ 7.1%
A full on an American style IPA completely hopped to hell with the infamous CITRA hop. Expect a grapefruit punch to the palette. This is a beer for serious hop lovers!

XT – ‘Four’ 3.8%
An amber beer with a special Belgian malt and a fruity mix of American and European hops.

Thornbridge – ‘Kipling’ 5.2%
Golden blonde beer with an exquisite passionfruit, gooseberry and mango aroma. An initial sweetness and full body are balanced by a lasting grapefruit-like bitter finish.
